ABOUT THE STUDIO
LORI DEAN FOUNDED THE STUDIO IN 2019 AND BRINGS OVER 30 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE IN URBAN PLANNING AND DESIGN, WITH EXPERTISE SPANNING ACTIVE TRANSPORT STRATEGIES, ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT, WAYFINDING AND SIGNAGE, VISUAL DESIGN AND COMMUNICATION, ILLUSTRATION, MAPPING, AND PLACEMAKING.
Having lived in Switzerland for more than a decade and travelled widely, she has experienced walking- and cycling-friendly streets and cities first-hand. She understands not just how they look, but how they feel—and the difference they make to people’s daily lives by improving health and safety, strengthening community identity, and enhancing mobility and connectedness.
As a certified Healthy Streets® Practitioner and Designer, Lori is passionate about how people engage with, move through, and relate to their environment. She specialises in people-centred design, including Healthy Streets®, bicycle-friendly streets, and inclusive public spaces. She believes that creating communities with greater mobility choice builds independence, resilience, and equality—especially for children, older adults, and people with disabilities.
Lori has trained with world leaders in people-centred design and planning, including the Planning the Cycling City Master Course, Reclaiming the Streets and Bicycle User Experience, Healthy Streets®, and Placemaking.
With expertise in both urban planning and graphic design, she brings the rare ability to translate complex, technical content into language and visuals that are engaging, clear, and accessible. Most recently, she illustrated, designed, and co-published a children’s book celebrating the joy of riding a bike to school.
